Chronic Illness is a wall in your life that you have to build around.
When someone says are you ok? You eventually learn to say, "I'm fine", because your not taken seriously and they stop empathizing with your symptoms.
Your symptoms have become normalized and you have been forced to manage it for so long that its just another part who you are now. You add any new crack to the list of things that are breaking you down. Good days bring fear knowing of the looming storm that is sure to follow. Fighting what feels like a hopeless battle to stay away from the doctors who tell you that you’re an anomaly leaving you back at square one... hopeless & with no answers.
You have a box of trial and error sitting somewhere in your home. At this point you have become your own nurse and have mastered the art of medication and home remedies. You struggle to make commitments with friends & family because you cant rely on your body to work in that moment. You can hear the disbelief and annoyance every time you cancel... The voices creep in telling you that you are a burden, you are crazy, no one believes you, its all in your head just take some more meds.
They ask, "Are you ok"?
Your struggling with an internal battle that breaks you down more and more each day. Your fighting to hold on to those good days and make them count. Your struggling to understand yourself and your body searching every corner for an answer. You feel alone and like your missing out in your own life. Your grasping for air and fighting each day with yourself....
….You respond, " I'm Fine".
